Tow-behind claw scarifier
The 92 cm tow-behind claw scarifier helps to aerate your lawn; it is designed to remove moss and excess thatch. Fitted with 21 cm spring-loaded steel tines, a lifting handle and puncture-proof wheels, it attaches to your ride-on mower to make it easier to maintain large lawns.
With each mowing, stems, roots, leaves and undecomposed plant matter accumulate on the soil surface. This layer, known as thatch, can restrict the passage of air, water and nutrients when it becomes too thick. The tow-behind claw scarifier helps to remove this excess material as well as moss. The lawn thus benefits from conditions more favourable to its growth and makes better use of watering and fertiliser applications.
With a working width of 92 cm, this tool allows you to maintain large lawns by using the traction of your ride-on mower. Its 21 cm-long spring-loaded steel tines are arranged to rake every 5 cm, providing even coverage across the entire working width. They work the topsoil to remove materials that suffocate the grass.
It is fitted with a safety tension wire; if one of the tines breaks off, it remains attached to the wire to ensure safe use.
The lifting handle allows the tines to be lowered into the working position or the whole unit to be raised for transport. Adjusting the tine-holding plate also helps to balance the contact of the front and rear tines with the ground, ensuring a consistent result.
To enhance the tines’ effectiveness, the plate can accommodate a securely fixed counterweight. This additional weight is particularly useful when the implement tends to bounce during use. The two 120 cm straps with zamak buckles supplied are used to hold the counterweight in place.
The 58 cm long universal hitch system allows the scarifier to be attached to a towing vehicle fitted with a suitable hitch.
Its 175 mm diameter puncture-proof wheels ensure smooth movement without the need for pressure checks and allow for intensive, long-term use.
The Gardener’s Review:
With a working width of 92 cm, this tow-behind scarifier is a practical ally for maintaining large lawns. Its spring-loaded steel tines dislodge moss and thatch to promote the flow of air, water and nutrients. The option to add ballast to enhance its performance is very practical. The two straps supplied are a useful addition to this equipment. Start in first gear at low revs, then gradually adjust your speed depending on the results achieved. For a more even finish, work in criss-cross patterns and check that all the front and rear tines are making contact with the ground. If you add ballast, secure it carefully before starting.
